Roman is a gentle, sensitive boy who came to us as a very frightened stray and is now ready for a calm, understanding home. He needs a quiet household with a secure garden and must be rehomed with a friendly, neutered dog, as he is far more confident when he has a canine companion to guide him. Once settled, Roman is affectionate on his own terms—leaning in for fuss, giving kisses, and happily falling asleep to his fosterer’s singing. He now copes well with everyday household noises but can still be startled by loud or unexpected sounds and will seek out his safe space, usually the kitchen.
Roman can be wary of new people, particularly men, and will need slow, structured introductions with plenty of space to retreat. He tends to ignore strangers on walks but becomes frightened if approached, so visitors must remain hands off and allow him to go at his own pace. Although anxious during his first days in foster, he now sleeps well overnight, uses enrichment, toilets on lead, and travels calmly in the car.
Out on walks, Roman moves nicely on lead in quiet areas, enjoys sniffing and responds to cues like “walk on” and “this way.” He dislikes busy roads and may not always take treats if worried. Given his tendency to bolt when frightened, he should never be let off lead in public and uses a secure harness. With other dogs he is social and playful once comfortable, though he can be tense on first greetings or a little over-enthusiastic with sniffing or humping and may need gentle management.
Roman is a sweet, vulnerable dog who has made remarkable progress. With a patient family, a calm environment, and a confident resident dog, he will continue to grow in trust and will reward his people with quiet affection and loyal companionship.
