Our RSPCA connection

Our responsibilities as Bath & District Branch

A little history

In 1939 an amalgmation of animal rescue groups in Bath opened the centre in Claverton Down. In 1949, John Hobhouse became Chairman and fought for many modern welfare ideals firstly for our branch independently and then across the national RSPCA.

Our official charity registered name is RSPCA Bath and District Branch, but we are known as Bath Cats and Dogs Home.

RSPCA and Bath Cats & Dogs Home

Bath Cats and Dogs Home is part of the RSPCA network and works closely with RSPCA Inspectors to care for animals where there are immediate concerns for their welfare.

This work is some of the most traumatic we encounter, and often sees unbelievable acts of neglect and abuse.

In 2024, we took in 93 animals because of immediate concerns for their welfare. Three were part of RSPCA legal cases, caring for the animals whilst owners are under prosecution for animal abuse and neglect.

Dogs like Buddy owe their lives to the action of RSPCA Inspectors, and the subsequent care our team gives at the Home. » Read Buddy's story.
