Foster an animal

Open your home and heart to help animals get ready for their forever home.

Animal fostering is one of the most rewarding ways to help rescue pets in need.

Some of our rescue cats and dogs need a home environment for their best welfare at this time. As a fosterer, you'll be an amazing part of these animals' journey to a new home, fully supported by our experienced foster team.

Why foster a rescue animal?

  • All the joy of sharing your home with a pet!
  • Flexible commitment (from 6 weeks +). You can still go on holiday, and you can bring them back at any time if it just isn’t working out
  • Food, equipment and veterinary care all arranged by BCDH
  • All our animals are assessed by our Vet and Behaviour teams – we know them really well
  • Full support from our experienced foster team
  • Pride in knowing you’re helping a cat and dog along their adoption journey

“I love helping animals. When you can make a positive difference to their lives it is wonderful.”
- Debra, cat and dog fosterer

“It’s super rewarding to give cats a home environment where they can relax and be themselves. For example, fostering Madame was very satisfying as she was so afraid of us when she arrived and by the end was playing with us, accepting and enjoying fuss I was so proud of her when she met someone new and immediately approached for strokes - it was like she was a different cat! It was nice to know that we'd played a part in helping her get adopted.”
- Rosanna, cat fosterer

“Life on site can sometimes be hard on young and vulnerable animals. The opportunity to go into a foster home makes a huge difference. Fostering an animal can help teach them how to live in a home with basic house rules, as well as continuing with their training and rehabilitation. Fosterers will also see their personalities and little quirks – insider knowledge that helps our Rehoming team match the animal to a forever home. All in all, it speeds up the process for these cats and dogs in getting rehomed.”

- Nicky, Training and Behaviour Manager
