Found in a field with 6 kittens, could we help the whole family?
Rosalina, a young tabby cat, was found in a field in Wiltshire with her six newborn kittens - just a day or two old.
With demanding mews it can be easy to think just of the six hungry kittens, but in this case, mum needed some extra care too.
Rosalina was very nervous and shy, and although she was happy for us to handle her kittens to encourage them to grow up sociable, she wasn’t keen on interacting with our team at all.
Our foster manager Emma stepped up and found a loving foster home willing to take on the whole brood. This provided a safe place for Rosalina to bring up her kittens, but also to give her space to start her own journey.
It's going great! Rosalina has blossomed and has become relaxed enogh to accept fuss. Her fosterer tells us she loves looking out of the window to the fields, so we’ll be looking for a countryside home for her to enjoy plenty of space.
Her kittens will return to us when they’re 8–9 weeks old for neutering and rehoming.
With warmer weather, cats naturally roam more - and if they haven’t been neutered, they may have litters from as early as four months old. Every year we have this 'kitten season'.
Caring for a mum and her kittens can cost our charity around £1,700 during a typical 3 month stay. Please support our 'A feline summer' appeal if you can, so we can continue to support cats and kittens in need.
Your donation, whether a one-off or a monthly gift, can pay for everything from milk and food, to vet checks and expert staff time. If you want some flexibility, with our monthly donation portal you can change or pause your gift at any time.
