From emergency surgery to beloved house panther

Nimbus was only ten months old when he arrived at Bath Cats and Dogs Home following a suspected road traffic accident. He was struggling to breathe, had a fractured jaw and was running a high temperature.

Imaging revealed a traumatic diaphragmatic rupture, a serious internal injury that required major surgery. His owner was unable to afford the veterinary treatment he urgently needed and signed him over so that he could receive care.

Recovery was difficult. With pain from his fractured jaw and damage inside his body, eating and digesting food was a challenge. Our team supported him with liquid food and carefully monitored his nutrition while he recovered.

It took around three weeks for Nimbus to become stable. He then needed several more weeks of pod rest, which was no easy task for such a young and curious cat. The team kept him occupied with gentle play, easy food games and plenty of company.

People were Nimbus’s favourite form of entertainment. If he heard one of his friends nearby, he would sometimes bang on his pod door to remind them that he was waiting for a cuddle. After six weeks, he was finally strong enough to stretch his legs in our cat garden.

Nimbus was adopted in early April 2026 and quickly became a much-loved member of his new family. His adopter recently told us: “We are so in love with the little man already. He’s our little house panther and we love him so, so much!”
