A look behind the scenes at some of the Behaviour training with our dogs, to improve their quality of life and chance of adoption.

Meet Ken, a gorgeous shepherd/saluki cross. With the help of the Behaviour team, Ken is learning how to meet other dogs nicely. He has progressed hugely in the last few months but to ensure other dogs’ safety during this time Ken is having muzzle training.

There are many reasons a dog may benefit from wearing a muzzle. For Ken, this is to keep approaching dogs safe and deter other owners from allowing their dog to approach. This will increase the number of places he can go walking in. Above all, we can relax on his walks knowing he will be safe and that will in turn help Ken relax – it’s a win win!

We are taking the training at Ken’s pace and he is slowly gaining confidence with putting his whole nose into the muzzle – something we want to ensure he is comfortable with before we begin securing it at the back of his head. This is a brilliant start to his training, and the Welfare teams will continue to work at this with Ken.
