From the bushes to a better life

A life reclaimed from the rubbish
Clementine’s story began in a bin store in Trowbridge, where she was found trying to survive on her own. A kind local started feeding her and asking around to see if she had a home. Then, in mid-May, Clementine gave birth in his garden. Wanting the best for her and her kittens, he brought them to a local vet, and from there they came into our care at BCDH.
Understandably, Clementine was nervous of people. She would hiss when startled, but if you moved slowly and gently, she’d lean in for a cheek rub and start to purr. She was a devoted mum - always keeping a close eye on her kittens - so we took extra care when handling them, weighing them in view of her hiding space so she could always see what was happening.
To give her more space and a quieter environment, we found her a foster home. There she began to relax, and her kittens grew in confidence with her steady presence.
This week, Clementine returned to our cattery. Her kittens are ready for adoption this weekend, and she’s beginning to settle in with us. Soon, we’ll be looking for a calm, loving home where she can start the next chapter of her life - one where she’s safe, cherished, and finally able to be herself.
Caring for mums and kittens takes a lot of time and resources - if you can, please donate to our 'Feline fine' appeal to help more mums and kittens who are coming to us this year.
