Alfred’s second life: from fragile to fearless
Weighing just 2.7kg, painfully thin and weak, Alfred had clearly endured a long period of neglect. He was suffering from untreated dental disease, a painful intestinal infection and the effects of flea infestation. At an age when he should have been settled and comfortable, he was simply trying to survive.

But even then, Alfred carried a quiet determination.
After receiving urgent initial care at the RSPCA clinic in Merthyr Tydfil, Alfred was transferred to us while his case remained ongoing. Our team began gently rebuilding his strength, feeding him little and often so his fragile body could recover safely.
Once officially signed into our care, we were able to begin the full treatment he needed. He underwent essential dental surgery to relieve his pain and received ongoing medication and veterinary support. Slowly, carefully, Alfred began to heal.

“Alfred has been a real character,” says Senior Animal Carer Ashleigh. “He will shout at you as you pass for attention and take all the fuss you can give him. He eats his medication well and has been a gent to all our volunteers and the team - a perfect guest.”
The underweight, exhausted cat who first arrived was replaced by a confident companion with strong opinions and an even stronger appreciation for affection.
With time, patience and expert care, Alfred reached a healthy weight and was finally ready for his next chapter.

That chapter is now filled with warmth, comfort and love in his forever home.
Alfred’s story is a powerful reminder that no animal is beyond help. With the right care, compassion and support, even the most fragile lives can be restored.
