Making a safe space for a pregnant cat

Lola arrived at our rehoming centre last year, heavily pregnant and deeply nervous. Adjusting to new people and surroundings was tough for her, so we made sure she had a quiet, calm environment in our Hurle Cattery – a space designed specifically for vulnerable cats.

To protect both Lola and the other pregnant or medically at-risk cats, we increased our staffing and implemented strict health protocols to avoid any risk of cross-contamination. Slowly but surely, Lola began to trust her carers, and with time, she started to show her sweet and affectionate side.

Our team created a bespoke pregnancy and birthing plan to make sure Lola had all the comfort and care she needed for the final stage of her pregnancy.

A family is born

After more than a month in our care, Lola gave birth to seven beautiful kittens, with names beginning with “L” in her honour – including the adorable Lana.

Every one of those kittens received the gold standard of care: hand-feeding, medical check-ups, neutering, chipping, and of course, plenty of socialisation and play.

Our team also provided Lola with all the postnatal support she needed as a mum, making sure both she and her babies had everything they needed to grow strong and healthy.

Happy endings – thanks to you

Once the kittens were old enough, our Rehoming team stepped in to match them with loving forever homes. Lola, Lana, and the rest of the litter all found their perfect families – and Lana now lives with Sulis, a previous BCDH resident!
