Trev is a very nervous and shut-down cat who is still learning how to feel safe in the world. At just three years old, he finds the cattery environment overwhelming and spends most of his time in hiding. He is extremely wary of new people and will retreat if approached. While he may hiss if someone gets too close, this is purely out of fear — Trev has never shown aggression, only a strong desire to keep his distance.
He is not yet ready for human interaction or affection. Trev has sniffed an offered hand but hasn’t shown interest in engaging further, and handling has been kept to a minimum to avoid causing him distress. He can tolerate gentle touch without reacting, but he tends to shut down completely in those moments. His ideal home would be one that fully understands and accepts that progress with Trev will be slow and entirely on his terms.
Trev finds comfort in quiet spaces and enjoys having access to a scratch post or cat tree, especially when covered with blankets to create hidey holes and safe spots to observe the world from a distance. He’s a cat who takes solace in his surroundings rather than in people, and for now, that’s what makes him feel secure.
To give Trev the best possible start in a new home, he will need a quiet, adult-only environment with a dedicated spare room to settle into. He should not be given access to the rest of the home until he is confidently moving around his safe room in the presence of his new owner. Rushing this process or introducing too much too soon will likely set him back. His adopter must be patient, experienced with nervous cats, and willing to give him as much time as he needs to begin feeling safe.
Trev may never become a lap cat or confident companion, but he deserves a chance to live in a calm, stable environment where he is accepted just as he is. With the right person, he may slowly begin to trust and show small signs of connection over time.
