Rio

Rio is a 1-year-and-2-month-old boy with bags of personality and a lot of love to give. He’s a friendly and affectionate cat who’s quick to greet new people and won’t hesitate to come straight over for a fuss. In fact, he’s known to meet you at the door with a chirp or meow, always keen to say hello. He’s been a real lap cat during his time at the cattery and we expect that affectionate side will continue to shine through in the right home. Rio would do best in a cat-savvy home that understands feline body language and can recognise when he’s getting overstimulated. While he loves human company and craves attention, he can become a little frantic if he gets too excited. For that reason, it’s important that he’s allowed to make the first move when it comes to affection. He enjoys being groomed, but will feel safest if things go at his own pace. When his signals are respected, he’s a loyal and loving companion. This sociable boy could fit well into a somewhat busy household, as he’s generally confident and enjoys being around people. That said, he may be a little timid during his first day or two in a new environment. An enclosed room for at least the first 24 hours will help him feel safe while he settles in. Once he’s confident in that space—showing he’s not hiding and is happy to accept fuss—you can gradually open up the rest of the home to him, ideally with someone nearby to offer reassurance. Rio has shown some signs of frustration at times, and for that reason we’re looking for a home with a cat flap, so he has the freedom to go outside (after the settling in period) when he needs to. Having that choice and control over his environment will make a big difference to his wellbeing. He’s not one to immediately launch into playtime, but once he’s in the mood, he does enjoy chasing fishing rod toys and engaging with enrichment activities. This affectionate, vocal, and often comical cat will make a wonderful addition to the right home. He needs people who will give him plenty to do, respect his boundaries, and enjoy his bold personality. If you're looking for a cat who’ll greet you at the door, keep you company on the sofa, and always let you know what’s on his mind, Rio might be just the companion you’ve been searching for.
