Teaching your dog to be left alone
What to do when your dog finds it difficult for you to be away
Dogs, Dog training, Dog behaviour
Maple is a friendly, sociable cockapoo who enjoys being around people and other dogs, but she can find being left alone quite difficult and will need patient, structured support in this area. In the new home Maples leaving times will need to be built up very gradually, and she may benefit from crate training to help her feel more secure, she is already familiar with a crate in her kennel. In her previous home she was house trained and used a dog flap. She is also comfortable toileting on lead if needed, though she is used to having a garden, which may help her settle further (though this is not essential if her needs are well managed).
<BR> Maple is affectionate and enjoys fuss, though she prefers this on her own terms. She has been described as a “lap dog” in her previous home and clearly enjoys close companionship with people she trusts. She loves her walks, exploring, and travelling in the car, and has shown no reactivity towards people or other dogs.
Maple will thrive in a patient, understanding home that can support her gradually with being left alone and continue building her confidence and security.
