Animal Carer (part time)

Want to work with rescue animals to care for them, and help them find a new family? We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome over 500 animals every year, and it wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated Animal Care team making sure that, whilst they are here, they have the best possible life.

Bath Cats & Dogs Home is one of the busiest rescues in the south-west, and we strive to have the best in animal welfare. We have in-house behaviour and veterinary teams who look at nutrition, play, health and environmental enrichment to make our animals feel safe and cared for.

There are 20 like-minded people in our Animal Care team, and they are a hard-working and supportive family.

As one of our animal carers, you'll be the one who get to know our rescue animals the best, but the role encompasses much more than feeding and exercising.

About you

You will have the discipline of completing routine cleaning and care to a high standard as well as the flexibility to work with the behaviour and veterinary teams to ensure every animal follows their own individual care plan.

You will have proven animal care experience ideally coupled with appropriate qualifications. Our animals come from a wide variety of backgrounds so you will have the patience to make sure they feel comfortable and secure.

Our Animal Carers are a passionate, hard-working team – will you join us?

Opportunities

  • Gain experience with a range of breeds and temperaments.
  • In-house training for welfare, behaviour and veterinary care.
  • External training for personal development.

Retail Operations Manager

Animal charities are the number one cause in our area. And the most popular way to support them? Donating items. Could you harness that passion to take our charity retail and ecommerce to the next level in the name of animal welfare?

We’re looking for a driven and experienced Charity Retail Operations Manager to lead and inspire our team across shops and ecommerce platforms. If you thrive on crafting strategies, building strong teams, and delivering measurable results, this is the role for you.

The pandemic pet boom, poor breeding practices and the rising cost of living mean that rescue centres, like Bath Cats and Dogs Home, are contending with unprecedented numbers of animals with complex medical and behavioural problems.

Now, more than ever, we need the support of the community around us to ensure that every cat and dog has the opportunity to enjoy a healthy life and a happy home.

As Retail Operations Manager, you’ll collaborate with the Head of Fundraising & Trading to deliver strategies that increase income and efficiency. You’ll oversee the day-to-day running of retail operations, manage staff and volunteers, and ensure high standards in everything from merchandising to donation handling.

In return, you’ll play a key role in a passionate and ambitious team. You’ll make a tangible difference to the lives of animals and the people who love them.

We commit to being kind, inspirational, dedicated, open and honest, and expert. If our values match your own, and you are inspired by the work that we do, then we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and develop the retail team to meet and exceed annual income targets.
  • Oversee shop and ecommerce operations, ensuring smooth processes and compliance with Health & Safety and trading standards.
  • Drive creative shop merchandising, promotions, and window displays.
  • Build partnerships with internal teams (Finance, People, Communications) and external stakeholders.
  • Manage donation campaigns, ensuring a strong pipeline of high-quality stock.
  • Shape short, medium, and long-term strategies for retail and ecommerce growth.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers in partnership with the Volunteer Engagement Manager.

The details

Location: Hybrid – Bath Rehoming Centre, Shops, and Home
Salary: £30,000 per annum (FTE)
Hours: Flexible from 22.5 to 37.5 hours per week
