At Bath Cats and Dogs Home we feel that it is very important to reach young people in our community and offer education regarding the importance of responsible animal ownership.
We aim to inspire young people to care, make a difference and support animals.
We have developed a session aimed at KS1 & early KS2 children which focuses on the 5 welfare needs and understanding that animals have feelings too. We want to encourage children to think about how they can make the lives of companion animals happy and healthier. We aim to develop positive attitudes and behaviours towards animals and develop empathy. During these sessions we promote compassion and encourage learners to understand how animals think and feel in daily life.
We want these sessions to be fun and interactive and can be tailored to support specific needs.

“The session was well pitched well for the targeted age group of KS1 children. There was a variety of interactive activities to engage the children and the content was informative and well sequenced. It was especially effective to illustrate that the basic needs of an animal are the same as the basic needs of a human and enabled the children to think about appropriate conditions for pets.
