What should I bring on the day?
Water for yourself and your dog, poo bags, tissues, hand sanitiser, suitably warm and waterproof clothing and footwear, and your mobile phone for emergencies and in case you need to contact us/ we need to contact you while on the walk. We will have refreshments and activities on the event field, so we recommend bringing some money with you.
Where do I park for the event?
The car park is on the Bath Cats & Dogs Home field, which is between our main buildings and Claverton Down Road. Please see the map attached. Access is through a large wooden gate on Claverton Down Road. We will have signage and car park marshals on the day directing traffic, so keep an eye out for the high vis’. Spaces are limited, so we ask you to car share wherever possible.
Can I take public transport to the event?
There are a few buses which run from the centre of Bath to the University, all of which are listed on the First Bus website - www.firstbus.co.uk. The most regular bus is the U1.
What happens if I’m late on the day?
Our walks set off in two groups, but if you’re running late we should still be able to accomodate you. However, if you are running more than 20 minutes late we may not be able to do so. Please be patient when arriving, as there may be walkers heading out of the car park entrance, but we will do our best to get you in as quickly as possible.
Will there be access to water for my dog on route?
Limited water points will be located along the walk; however, we really recommend that you also bring your own water and bowl along for back up.
Will there be food and drink available on the day?
There will be food and drink available to purchase at the starting and finishing point (on the events field). We have invited Really Awesome Coffee to serve hot drinks and Good Day Cafe will be back again with their delicious baked goods. More to be announced!
Is the walk accessible?
The 5-mile route contains some rough terrain, steep hill climbs, and some areas that are unsteady underfoot, so a good level of fitness is required, and great care will need to be taken at certain points. The route is not wheelchair or pushchair accessible. The 2-mile route is a flat route and stays close to the Home avoiding crossing busy roads - however, it
is still off the path, so may not be suitable for all. If you have questions on this, please let us know.
Will there be photos on the day?
There will be a photographer at Sham Castle who will be taking photos of the dogs enjoying their day out, so keep an eye out for him! Our marshals along the route may also be taking photos, and we’ll publish any on our social media in the days following on from Wag Walk. We will also have a ‘photobooth’ on the event field, kindly sponsored by Skylark Photography. Have a little photo shoot with your doggos, which will then be available for purchase after the event.
