Dogs, Rehome
Celebrating International Dog Day with Abbie the Belgian Shepherd who is looking for a home.
Every year on 26th August, International Dog Day reminds us of the love, loyalty and companionship that dogs bring into our lives. It’s also a day to shine a light on those dogs still waiting for their forever homes - dogs like Abbie, a bright and beautiful Belgian Shepherd Dog who has captured the hearts of our team here at Bath Cats and Dogs Home.
Abbie came to us earlier this year after being found as a stray in Wiltshire. At just over a year old, she was nervous and unsure of the world. But with time, patience and lots of care from our team, Abbie has blossomed into the clever, affectionate and playful young dog she was always meant to be.
Why we’re celebrating big dogs today
This International Dog Day, we’re shining a light on our large breed dogs. They’re often overlooked simply because of their size - but anyone who has lived with a big dog knows just how special they are.
Large dogs may need a little extra space and training, but they give back tenfold in joy, loyalty and companionship. From goofy play sessions to countryside adventures, their big hearts bring just as much warmth as their enthusiasm and wagging tails.
Meet Abbie - our big-hearted girl
Abbie is full of potential - the kind of dog that trainers describe as a “dream to work with.” She’s active, intelligent and eager to learn. Once she builds trust, she bonds deeply and is happiest when she’s given calm, confident guidance. She loves to play with toys, enjoys countryside walks and is learning more every day about how to navigate the big wide world.
She’ll thrive in a home that can give her the time, space and encouragement she deserves - ideally with adopters who love training and an active lifestyle. A secure garden, adults-only household and patient approach will help her continue to grow in confidence. She could even live with another calm, confident dog to show her the ropes.
Two ways you can help this International Dog Day
Abbie represents what International Dog Day is all about - giving dogs in need a second chance and celebrating the joy they bring into our lives.
