How foster care helped Liliana settle into her new home

Liliana arrived at Bath Cats and Dogs Home in March 2025 after being removed from a household with too many cats by an RSPCA inspector. She was frightened and anxious, and needed medication and specialist support to help her settle.

We spent around £500 on medication to help manage Liliana’s anxiety. Another important part of her care was moving into a foster home, away from the unfamiliar sounds and activity of the cattery.

In foster care, Liliana gradually became more comfortable. Her foster carer discovered that she enjoyed soft and plastic balls, interactive cat games and watching Cat TV.

Liliana was adopted in November, and her new family initially continued her medication before gradually weaning her off it.

Since then, she has found her voice and become particularly chatty in the mornings, earning herself the role of household alarm clock. She purrs, rubs against her adopter’s legs and enjoys playtime, Cat TV and the children’s programme Bluey.

Liliana still retreats to her safe space when unfamiliar people visit, and her family gives her the time and space she needs. She recently celebrated her second birthday with special treats and new toys, although having her photograph taken is still not one of her favourite things.

Foster homes can give animals like Liliana a quieter environment while they receive the care and support they need before moving into a permanent home.
