When it isn’t all behaviour…

How our behaviour team make a huge difference
Our behaviour team help the individual cat or dog along the path to adoption, and can include everyday pet training like don’t jump up, walking on the lead and visiting the vets, to broader targets such as reducing anxiety, building confidence and resilience to change.
The team work holistically with other animal teams at the rescue centre.

Every single animal that arrives gets seen by the team. That’s 700+ cats and dogs a year!
Each animal gets their own little roadmap to get them adoption-ready.
About 70% of dogs and 50% of cats get bonus confidence-building time with the team.
New families get behaviour notes and tips, so they know exactly how to help their pet settle in.
The team coach animal carers in handling and behaviour skills.
Abbie had to be caught in a dog trap to get her to safety, with us at Bath Cats and Dogs Home. She was very scared, frightened of new things and people, but a super clever dog keen to please.
Our behaviour team spent time being calm with her, teaching her manners, to focus and trust. She has come a long way with many hours of training, and is now ready for adoption – we just need to find her a match.
