Toffee is a lovely chap, who can be shy so you will need to visit a couple of times before adoption. Once comfortable he is an extremely affectionate boy, leaning in lurcher-style for more fuss. He can also be very playful and silly, lots of fun to be around.

He gains a lot of confidence from other dogs so would love to share his home with another dog as he enjoys company. He can struggle when left alone.

In the home Toffee will need a gentle approach from strangers as he is easily worried, particularly by men. He is a real foody so can be won over with a treat or two. Our Behaviour Team can give you some tips for helping Toffee settle in with his new family and friends.

Toffee here playing with Mavis - Mavis is one of our ex-dogs who comes in every now and then to help with socialisation training.
You'll see at one point Toffee gets his teeth out, but don't be alarmed, as our behaviourist Karen explains "Lurchers were bred to chase and grab prey, so their play style mimics this – there is always a lot of chasing when lurchers play! Some lurchers do want to ‘grab’ as well, which is what Toffee is indicating when he puts his mouth over Mavis’s neck (although he doesn’t actually grab, it is just the motion of it). As long as the other dog is comfortable with this (as Mavis is, shown by her loose body language and the fact that she is happy for the play to continue) then it is nothing to worry about. Obviously, if the other dog does not appreciate a rougher style of play, then it should be interrupted. It is important to match the dogs’ preferred play styles when they are off lead together. "
