Testimonial - Trekking

Danielle Steward trekked to Machu Picchu in Peru

“I had really high expectations of the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu as I've wanted to do it for years - it was high on my bucket list. It completely blew those expectations away! Everything about it was incredible. The views over the 4 days took your breath away.

It was a fantastic challenge, you can see how steep and narrow some of the steps are, they never end!  You increase altitude quite rapidly, it's a constant uphill while your oxygen levels decrease. One morning we had a 3am start to get to the Sun Gate around sun rise. We trekked in pitch darkness, with only our head lights. You could just make out the edge of the path and the huge drop! Machu Picchu would reveal itself and then completely disappear again - it was quite eerie! Seeing it with your own eyes in just indescribable..

The sense of accomplishment will stay with me for a lifetime

I was the youngest there at 26 and the oldest was 65. Everyone supports each other but at the same time can go at their own pace. The first people to arrive at camp always cheered and clapped everyone who came in next.

It's hard work but I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat!”
