Post-lockdown update, July 2021

Wow, it has been a long 17 months for all of us, and it has certainly made us all think differently about our lives and our work.

One thing was very clear – that animal cruelty does not stop, even in a global pandemic. Every day the dog wardens or RSPCA inspectors brought us animals to care for that had nowhere else to go.

Although our kennels and catteries were filling up, due to the coronavirus restrictions in place, and the reduction in visitors, the site was very quiet. We monitor our animal’s health and happiness every day, and we noticed a change over the months – they were more relaxed, and more responsive to training and socialisation.

We have made the promise to put welfare at the heart of everything we do, and this change could not be ignored.

So, from now on general visitors will not be able to walk around the site and view animals being cared for, but this will not impact our ability to rehome to you. Our expert rehoming team will continue to match adopters and pets, inviting registered adopters in to meet animals in a supervised situation which the animals find comfortable – on a walk or in a garden or paddock.

We’ve been using this process throughout the second half of the pandemic and it has been very successful so far, particularly for our overlooked and long-stay animals. Here is just some of the feedback from adoptions this year:

“He just fits, thanks for the match - we are both in love with him!”

“He really was a perfect match for me and I'm very grateful for everything that was done to pair us up.”

“She is the perfect match for our family and the best dog we could have asked for.

“We absolutely LOVE Matilda!! She is the perfect match for our family. We feel so grateful for the addition to our family and can’t thank you enough for the great match!”

“We can’t believe how well she’s settled into our family routine. Thanks so much she really is a perfect match”

Our lovely adopters will be able to follow the journey as above, our amazing supporters will be welcome as always and if you aren’t yet a supporter of the Home there will be plenty of opportunities to find out more about our work with behind-the-scenes tours being organised throughout the year (we’ll share the details as soon as we can).

In the meantime, please do get in touch if you’d like to find out more about the Home and our life-saving animal welfare work, we’d love to hear from you.

Our Reception remains open so do pop in for general enquiries, where you will be received with a warm welcome - we hugely value your support.

Thanks for your understanding, we know that you will all be keen to put the happiness of rescue pets first.
