School visits and talks

It is very important for us to be able to reach the younger generation and to teach them about the importance of responsible animal ownership. Our talks can also be tailored to increase the personal development of students by meeting specific learning objectives of the national curriculum.

What we can offer

You can visit us at Claverton Down (maximum group size 30) where you can have the talk and presentation about our work and also a tour of the re-homing kennels and cattery to see some of the animals - please allow approximately 1 hour for this visit.

Visits to the Home must be on a weekday between the hours of 11am and 4pm.

Or we can visit your school to give a talk and explain the work we do. The 30-minute PowerPoint presentation includes plenty of pictures and we can bring a friendly dog to meet the pupils.

All of these events can be tailored to the age and interests of your children. We have talked to groups from ages 5 to 18.

We can design sessions to meet the following learning objectives of the national curriculum:

Science KS1 – 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c, 2e, 2f, 2g
Science KS2 – 1a, 1b, 1c
Literacy – A visit offers many opportunities for – creative writing, poetry, stories, diary writing (a day in the life of an animal), posters and leaflets (how to care for a pet).
Numeracy – A visit offers many opportunities - such as looking at fundraising and costs incurred by the Home.

Please note we are temporarily unable to accommodate visits to senior schools. Please check back in at a later date if you have an older group of students who would like to learn more about Bath Cats and Dogs Home.

School visits are free but if your school would like to fundraise for us we can give you some great ideas on how to raise vital funds for the Home.
