Stray animals - collection, fines & rehoming

Stray animals are handed into us by dog wardens and members of the public. We hold them for seven days but if they have not been claimed after that then they will be signed over to the Home and eligible for rehoming.

For dogs, Local Authorities impose a fine which you must pay before claiming your animal.

There have been reports of scam phone calls claiming that they are RSPCA - please note that we would not ask for payment by transfer or over the phone before you visit us to collect.

  • Wiltshire. If your dog arrives via a Wiltshire Dog Warden, there is a minimum charge of £60 increasing each day that the dog is unclaimed.

  • Bath & NES. There is a fixed fee of £100 for any dog found straying in Bath & North East Somerset.

We do not charge for stray cats or small pets, but a donation would be appreciated.

To collect you will need two forms of ID - a photo ID and a utility bill showing your address.

For more information about stray dog fines and collections, please visit the Local Authority websites for Wiltshire Council and Bath and North East Somerset Council.

We recommend that you microchip your pet to enable you to be reunited quickly and easily. We offer free microchipping for cats, please call for more details. 01225 787321.

Make sure that your contact details are up to date with your microchip company.

It is also a good idea to take photos of your pet in case they go missing - take one of each side of the animal to show markings and build, and one of the face. Then if they do go missing, you have clear photos of them to put onto posters.
