07/07/2010 - PLOUGHMAN'S PICNIC FOR CATS AND DOGS!

Since 2007 the animal Home has seen a three-fold increase in the number of regular giving Paw Pal supporters, who now total 500, and collectively bring the charity several thousand pounds each month. Twelve Long-stay dogs, twelve long-stay cats and two rabbits make up the Paw Pal group seeking regular sponsorship.

The ploughman’s picnic event includes an exciting line-up of activities for the whole family with live music; a bouncy castle; children’s games; fairground rides; meet a vet and refreshments as well as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier display and promotion stands where animal carers will be on hand to offer advice and information about the family-friendly breed.

The event is scheduled to be held at the animal charity’s Claverton Down site on Sunday 18 July between 11am-4pm and guests are welcome to bring their own picnic or can enjoy a delicious, freshly prepared ploughman’s on the day, which must be pre-booked. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the family-friendly Staffordshire Bull Terrier breed during the day by speaking to the Home’s trained animal carers. In-house Staffie residents will be on hand to encourage re-homing of this mis-understood breed.

Katie Love, Events Co-ordinator comments: “The Paw Pals Picnic is a great day out for the whole family and provides the perfect opportunity to welcome back favourite friends; to introduce new dogs, cats and small animals to the popular Scheme and to encourage new supporters to become involved with Paw Pals to help us continue our life-saving work. We are celebrating the excellent increase in supporter numbers, which only a few years ago totalled around 150. Visitors will be able to meet existing long-stay animals during the celebratory event, including ‘old’ favourites such as Upton, Billy and Brandy dogs and Smudge and Rocky the feral cats. We also hope that by providing the opportunity for dog-lovers to get first hand experience of the lovable, family-friendly Staffie breed and                                                                                                                                                      raising awareness of its true characteristics through our special Staffie line-up, prospective owners will be more willing to give them the second chance they deserve.

Please let us know if you would like a Ploughman’s!”

Becoming a Paw Pal is an excellent way of directly helping the 3,000 unwanted local animals who rely upon the Home every year. The Paw Pals Scheme enables animal lovers to sponsor an animal themselves or as a gift for someone special on a regular basis for a minimum of just £5 per month by direct debit. Supporters can then choose the ‘long-stay’ cat or dog they would like to sponsor. In return they will receive a surprise gift from their special ‘Pal’, together with a photograph, regular newsletters and updates from the Home.
