09/11/2011 - Bath Building Society helps the animals

Staff and customers at the four branches of BBS have been adding a couple of tins and packs of dry complete cat and dog food to their shopping baskets each week to help sustain the animals here through the coming cold winter months.

Tracey Pemberton and Gemma Sharman, Branch Supervisors from BBS, organised the collection in the Wood Street, Moorland Road, Twerton and Larkhall Branches in the city.

Tracey comments: " As a local animals charity, Bath Cats and Dogs Home do such a fantastic job caring for the many hundreds of dogs, cats and small animals from the local area and beyond too and with another potentially harsh winter looming and many more pets abandoned we are keen for staff and customers to give unwanted pets a helping hand. We are asking pet owners and animal lovers to spare a thought for abandoned animals and to give them a welcome treat, whether it is food, blankets or anything else cats, dogs or small animals will benefit from. BBS has been in the city for over 100 years and is keen to support local charities and I hope our staff and customers will continue to give generously in the lead up to Christmas."

Rachel Allen from BCDH comments: "We would like to say a big thank you to BBS staff for choosing to help our abandoned animals with their goodwill food collection, which will directly benefit the animals. With around 3,000 dogs, cats and small animals relying upon our care each year and running costs of more than £3,500 a day, raising funds this year is proving a particularly tough challenge. We are an independent local charity and can only survive with ongoing financial help from local animal lovers who are able to spare a few pounds. It is this source of income, which is our life-blood. Please remember our animals."
