James Lye - cycling challenge

"I chose to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats because it seemed like a tough challenge that would take time and commitment to complete. I also felt that in years to come I could look back and think 'I conquered that!'

I was relatively fit but I had to up my training - at the peak I was cycling over 200 miles a week. There were times during training in rain, wind or just being in pain when I really just wanted to give up and have a beer! But I didn't because the feeling of carrying on is a real buzz - knowing that you're pushing yourself to your own limits.

The challenge was great; I met some brilliant people and have hopefully made some friends for life. I was so proud that I had seen it through - it was all in memory of my dog Louie who died last year. I raised £1630.40 (before Gift Aid) - it amazes me how generous people can be when sponsoring you. I also held charity nights, organised a quiz and skittles night. Someone even did a cake sale on my behalf without being asked!

I would thoroughly recommend taking up a big challenge - the buzz of training and completion is hard to describe."

Jade Merret - skydive

"The nerves that had built up were gone as soon as the plane started heading up the runway - it was definitely worth the wait. I think it's going to turn me into a bit of an adrenaline junkie! Who'd have thought that jumping out of a perfectly good plane at 10,000 feet and plummeting towards the earth in excess of 120 miles an hour could be so much fun?!

The best part was definitely the freefall - it was just surreal. When we first left the plane and tumbled through the air it was hard to make out which way was up, but once we'd reached a face-to-earth position it was such a buzz! The worst part, apart from the ridiculous headgear, was being the last one off the plane and watching everyone else drop likes stones from the side of the aircraft.

What makes it even better was knowing that in the process I've managed to beat my fundraising target by over £200.

It was such an amazing experience, and it's something I would definitely do again tomorrow if I could."
