Poorly Pets Appeal

UPDATE
Thank you to everyone for coffee mornings, runs, cake sales and donations to our appeal. It was very successful and we have some great news of equipment bought wfor our veterinery suite. Find out more here.

We continue to be inundated with poorly dogs and cats owing to owners who cannot afford vet treatment thanks to the ongoing effects of the recession. Since the economic downturn took hold a year ago, we have  seen a two-fold increase in the number of animals, particularly older sick animals, dumped in the local area requiring urgent attention, thanks to some owners choosing not to pay for vet care. In January alone, the Home took in 19 animals compared to 6 in the same period last year. This appeal will help animals like Nelly the Staffordshire terrier who is in constant pain with bad legs and lameness. She requires urgent hip treatment, for example, which will total almost £600. Staff must pick up her hind legs to enable her to stand and she will only eat when around people, so has found company behind reception.

Appeal dates: 02/01/2010 - 30/06/2010
